My First Fair Experience
On Saturday my friend and I decided to go on spur of the moment trip to the Orange County Fair in Costa Mesa with her family. When they found out it was my first time going to the fair they decided I needed to live the full experience.
Upon walking in the fair I first noticed all the sights and sounds of a typical fair. It has all the typical rides you would find at any fair or carnival including the ferris wheel and swings. In some ways it reminded me of the carnivals I went to when I was younger in La Canada but on a much grander scale. There was even a chairlift to get from one end of the fairgrounds to the other.

At first I thought this was another ride and then I realized it was a way to move people from one end of the fair to the other. It really gives you a sense of how big the Orange County Fair is.
After walking around a little we decided we were hungry so we decided to stop for some lunch. I ultimately decided on some chicken skewers.

The chicken and vegetables were very fresh and cooked perfectly. Although they are very messy so you may need a stack of napkins ![]()
However, I was told it wouldn’t be a fair experience without some fried dessert so we were in search of some crazy fried sweet treats.

The traditional funnel cake was always one of my favorite treats to get in the summer with my friends.

The fried red velvet cake was actually my favorite but one bite is all you need to satisfy your sweet tooth!
I could not help but laugh and take a picture when I saw this stand.

There was a long line of people waiting to eat at the Heart Attack Cafe but personally I was not adventurous enough to try the deep fried butter or chocolate covered bacon.
Despite all the sugar we had we could not resist buying some salt water taffy on our way out.
The Orange County Fair is open July 13 until August 12 so if you are in Southern California I would encourage you to come down and experience all delights the fair has to offer.
