The Von Der Ahes Celebrate the Olympics

The opening ceremony for the Summer 2012 Olympics in London is on July 27th and between commercials on television, apparel in stores, and other Olympic inspired products it is hard to not be excited. In the next few weeks we will see the triumphs and successes of some athletes and the heartbreaking falls of others as we cheer on all the athletes competing in the games. Here are some ways to keep the Olympic spirit in your home even after the last medal is received, the last national anthem is sung, and the athletes walk out of the arena at the closing games.

This is a LeRoy Neiman I bought with my husband Chris when we were engaged walking along the streets of Carmel in 1984 in excitement for the Olympics.

Michael Phelp’s painting by Lauren Von Der Ahe

This is an original work by my daughter Lauren Von Der Ahe depicting Michael Phelp’s swimming with a reflection of a shark in the water. This perfectly summarizes his success in the 2008 Summer Olympics. Michael Phelps if you are reading this blog Lauren said she will sell it to you for a 50k donation to Bachmann-Strauss on behalf of her sister Kristin Von Der Ahe :)

A collection of Vons Olympic pins

Pin collecting is a fun way to remember the Olympics and with a variety of different pins from ever summer and winter games you can select the perfect pins for you. Here are some Olympic pins from Chris’s own collection…the store his family started was a big supporter of the Olympics.

I hope my family has inspired you to incorporate the excitement of the Olympics into your everyday decor and we would love to hear how your family celebrates the Olympics!!
